The Natural Way To Avoid Migraines

In order to prevent Migraine Symptoms, there are several things a person can do. Most are natural and do not involve the use of western medicine which usually advises prescription drugs that have negative side effects.

#1. Avoid food triggers. While this is not specifically an allergy, these foods may set up your body to have the right conditions for a migraine to occur. Avoiding some of the common food triggers such as dairy, some fruits, and especially caffeine can prevent migraine symptoms.

#2. Prevent Migraine Symptoms by getting adequate sleep. It has been proved that not enough sleep can affect our motor skills and brain power. Being tired makes the body work even harder and increases stress, both physical and mental, and can again set the body up for the right conditions to induce a migraine.

#3. Stress management is yet another way to Prevent Migraine Symptoms. Many things lead to stress for a person including unhappy work environment family issues, and physical pain. There are many ways to both avoid stress and deal with it though that can keep you from getting migraines and from getting them as often. Avoiding known stressful situations whenever possible is smart. Getting massage, acupressure, or practicing yoga and meditation are all great ways to deal with stress and prevent the tension that comes from being stressed out. Long baths or relaxing walks can be calming for some and offer nearly cost free remedies.

#4. Hormone therapy can also help prevent Migraine Symptoms. For many women, menstrual migraine is a very painful situation caused by the fluctuation in hormone levels. In some cases, hormone therapy or bioidentical hormone replacement can help to prevent migraine symptoms in this situation.

#4. Prevent Migraine Symptoms with relaxation techniques. As discussed before there are many ways to practice relaxation and some things work much better for one person than for another. For many, the practice of yoga not only teaches the body to relax, but the mind as well. If you are the type of person who can't make your mind quiet in order to meditate, using guided meditation CD's or music might help. Guided meditation is an audio program where a voice will guide you through mental exercises such as imagining situations that will be quite relaxing. Often, hearing someone speak to you will allow you mind to focus easier and help avoid wandering and worrying over other things.

#5. Along the same lines of stress management is biofeedback. This practice is the conscious control of body parts that normally are a subconscious system such as breathing. With biofeedback, you concentrate on relaxing one body part at a time. Learning to control your breathing and muscle tension can help to relax your neck, shoulders, and head in order to help prevent migraine symptoms as soon as you begin to feel one coming on.

If you try one or all of these techniques to prevent migraine symptoms or to deal with a migrain once it has begun, you will likely have success at least to some degree.
