Stress Related Pain - A Major Factor Contributing To Migraines?
There is no question that our world if full of stress and stress inducing events. Unfortunately all we have to do is turn on our television to hear that the war is not over, the price of oil has gone up again or that there are problems in our schools that affect all of our children. In recent studies stress has been looked at an aggressor for those who suffer from migraine headaches. Stress related pain may not be the direct trigger of the migraine but is a factor in allowing triggers to work more easily and faster.
Basically, stress wears you down no matter what illness you may suffer from. Stress may actually cause the illness because the worry caused by stress has a negative effect on the human body which in turns runs down the immune system and lets in all sorts of attacks to the body. The physical signs of stress can range from tense muscles to tight joints and because they are not designed to function that way, your body parts will become painful and will have dysfunction over time. There are many proven ways to reduce stress which will help to avoid any stress related triggers causing a migraine. Don't watch the news. Many, many people are negatively affected by the negative stimuli of the news on TV and in newspapers whether they are aware of it or not. Constantly being reminded of the problems in our world and not being able to focus on the positive aspects of life can and do wear you down and eventually cause stress related pain. Certainly, avoid watching news late at night. Try to set a schedule for your day to day activities. Everything from lunch and dinner, to weekly grocery shopping and laundry can help your body and emotions stay on task and focused which eliminates all the outside clutter in your head and in your life. Getting onto a food schedule and not skipping meals is also good for your body in many ways and can help to reduce weight as well. If you are not drinking enough water, change this now. Our bodies are made of mostly water and need it to function properly. Relaxation techniques such as mediation, prayer, and even bubble baths are great ways to avoid stress related pain and clear your head. It allows you to be aware of all that is going on inside your body and mind. Your body will thank you for it too by not relaxing and releasing tension that is built up. If you have the resources, visiting a massage therapist or yoga class are both ways to help relieve any stress related pain and to prevent it as well. When you are mentally or emotionally stressed you will likely experience disrupted sleep as well. Too little sleep has been proven to cause all sorts of problems such as poor brain performance, memory loss and emotional distress. |
